Palm Plants

Palms are a family of flowering plants that grow worldwide in tropical and subtropical climates. There are over 2,500 species of palms. Some well-known examples of palms include the coconut palm, date palm, queen palm, areca palm, and oil palm.

Palms have long, straight trunks covered in the fibrous marks from old leaf bases. Their large evergreen leaves fan out from the top of the trunk in a crown. Many palms bear fruits like coconuts, dates, and acai berries.

Palms grow in habitats like rainforests, deserts, and near seashores. Popular ornamental palms include the parlor palm, majesty palm, and pygmy date palm, grown for their tropical, exotic look.
