Additional information

Weight 1 lbs

Prickly Pear ‘Snow (Opuntia erinacea ursine) is a unique cactus that is perfect for a landscape garden. It has rounded pads, short and long spines covered with white hair, and produces light yellow flowers during spring as they mature. Prickly Pear is easy to grow and easy to care for once established.

It can grow up to 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Prickly pear is native to South and North America and thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Growing them requires porous cacti and well-drained soil.

It is a lovely addition to your collection of cacti plants, especially if you have it displayed in a beautiful pot. Like any other cacti and succulent plants, they are drought-tolerant, so watering can be done if they are dry to the touch. Allow the soil to dry before watering them, and make sure there is an excellent draining hole in the pot to prevent root rot.

The best way to propagate them is via stem cuttings.

The Mature Prickly Pear ‘Snow’ or Opuntia ‘Snow’ is an unknown, unusual species or cultivar collected in Guerrero, Mexico.

It is also known as the Opuntia Erinacae Ursine. This very unique prickly pear is covered with white hair. At maturity it can reach 5 feet in height and 3 feet in width. The Snow White Prickly Pear cactus can tolerate moderately cold nights that get down to the low twenties. This temperature can not be survived if it is sustained for a long period of time. Opuntias, the prickly pear family of cacti, can be used in many different ways. They are great as an addition to your landscape., The prickly pear family can be used as a very nice contrast to other cacti and succulents. Prickly pears are also very low maintenance. They will tolerate the hottest areas of your landscape. The prickly pear family also thrives on very little water and can take very cold overnight temperatures.

Cactus plants are among the hardiest, most drought-tolerant in the world and very easy to maintain, as long as they are planted in a porous cactus/succulent soil, given proper drainage, daily bright light, and not over watered. Water whenever the soil is very dry several inches below the surface. Water deeply, but don’t let them sit in wet soil, which can cause root rot.

You will receive 1 well-established, rooted plant, from an 8  inch diameter pot, sent bareroot and packaged with great care. It will be shipped via USPS Priority mail.

If you are ordering from an area with weather below 32 degrees, please consider purchasing a heat pack.

  1. It’s a nice cactus. The only reason I give 2 stars is because of the description of it being rare and monstrose. It is exactly as pictured but the description certainly had me wondering. A totem pole cactus is not a San Pedro cactus and it did not look like a monstrose cactus. To clear things up for people, it is a typical pc variety cactus. Well packaged and nice specimen but run of the mill variety. Nothing rare to add to a collection
