Euphorbia ferox (Pincushion Euphorbia) is a columnar succulent with green stems and greyish spines arranged in rows. The stem resembles a green corncob with thorns. It can produce yellow-orange flowers as they mature.

It originates in South Africa where it thrives in full sun to partial shade, well-drained soil mix, and is drought-tolerant. Pincushion Euphorbia is an ideal houseplant because of its unique form and shape that can attract a plant enthusiast. Allow the soil to dry before watering them, and make sure there is an excellent draining hole in the pot to prevent root rot.

This plant doesn’t need fertilizer, but fertilizing them during their growing season using liquid fertilizer will help them grow faster. This plant is not cold-hardy, so plant them in a container that you can bring indoors and place them near a sunny window where they can thrive. The best way to propagate them is via cuttings.

Watch out for mealy bugs and scale insects. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to kill them.

***

Euphorbia ferox” Euphorbia ferox: This fierce Euphorbia has extra thick, sharp, purple/ red. It grows wild in South Africa and is extremely drought tolerant It doesn’t get too tall, and will form nice mounds as shown in the picture. Is an easy to grow plant for pot culture. It grows well in a very draining mineral potting substrate, but it isn’t picky about soil.  It needs bright light and it will produce clusters of offsets around its base. The area to which this plant is native receives rains in both winter and summer, so it can be watered moderately all year around (except in the coldest month of the winter, as it rots easily, especially if overly wet. These divisions (2 available) come with amazing corking as shown in the pictures. Plant will ship bare root.
