5 Wintergreen flower bareroot (Chimphila Maculata)
The Spotted Wintergreen is a rare sight, and therefore a welcome addition to any landscaping project. This plant is a somewhat understated one, so it is perfect for planting with other greenery around it. However, it will catch any onlooker’s eye with its beautiful coloring and delicate blooms. It will thrive in warm conditions and is often used underneath larger shrubs to add color, interest, and variance. The leaves at the base of the plant are a luscious dark green, with a light-colored variation of light green and white through the center of the leaves. In the center of the leaf cluster, a thin stem shoots up to showcase the creamy white, elegant flowers. The gentle flowers have a slight droop to them, adding to the delicate softness of the overall plant.
The Spotted Wintergreen is native to several areas in the United States. It requires very well-drained soil, and it prefers a sandy substrate underneath. The little trees appear healthy with green buds emerging. I did find it strange that they were not labeled with what they were, nor was there any paperwork with them, nor directions. I would strongly recommend that anyone buying these little plants wash all the soil off and bareroot them. They have a nice healthy root system, but the roots had grown down to the bottom of the pot, and then back to the top again, and with some circling. By barerooting them, and placing the plant on a little mound of soil and spreading the roots evenly around and down that mound, then partially filling in the planting hole, watering, adding soil to proper level to the base of the stem where the root flare starts, mulching with fine would chips (keeping the chips a few inches away from the stem) and watering again, they should have a good start.
I received the 5 trees I ordered and 4 were in great shape and 1 was broken. I got them planted and just wanting to see them grow. Excited!
I guess I can review it better later. No planting instructions were included. Keeping my fingers crossed that I planted them correctly. (I did Google planting instructions)
Shipping was super fast. The plant came in good condition. The packaging was beat up upon arrival. One leaf is damaged, but the plant seems ok for now.
Has 3 leaves is a little wrinkly. Hope it gets better! Such a cool little plant. Shipped carefully and quickly.
