Additional information

Weight 1 lbs

Sabal ‘Birmingham’ has been one of the most talked-about palms in the hardy palm groups for years. The original palm, grown from California-supplied seed, survived for more than 40 years in a private garden before being moved to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Alabama in 1976. The fronds of Sabal ‘Birmingham’ appear similar to, but slightly coarser than, a Sabal palmetto. Eventually this palm will get a trunk, but nothing the size of a typical palmetto. The original palm died (after too many re-locations) within the garden. Below 10-15 degrees it is recommend that you protect this palm for newly planted Sabal ‘Birmingham’ during the first couple of winters. This plant is a 2 year old seedling.

I always struggle to find plants that will grow in the full sun, clay soil area behind my house, but this plant is hanging in and growing. I can’t wait til the hummingbirds start to come.

It arrived intact, just in need of some care. I’m happy to have got this one, this tree means a lot to me – one of my favorite as a child in the countryside of Brazil.

I have purchased now three cold hardy citrus (citrandarin, and swingle citrumelo) both are in ground, doing great, but this thomasville cintrangaquat is shriveled, looks dry, and not happy. Little concerned this one is not going to make it and do as well as the other two.

I ordered the Shenandoah pawpaw seeds. The shipping was fast and seeds were in good condition. Planted them and waiting for sprouts.
