This beautiful, drought hardy perennial shrub can grow to a substantial size – the mother plant from which my seeds were collected was about 6 feet tall and at least as wide! The large leafed palmate foliage takes on a deep burgundy color, and the growing seed pods are a beautiful pale blue-green. The plant grows quickly and does great in warm, late spring weather with plenty of water to get it started. Scarification (hot water bath or sand paper) can quicken germination.
Please be warned: the seeds of the plant are highly toxic to animals and people, because they contain ricin, the poison for which the plant is (botanically) named.
