Alocasia Baginda Dragon Scale Starter Plant

Alocasia Baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ is a beautiful jewel alocasia with emerald green, velvety leaves with a darker green color near the vein. This jewel alocasia is the perfect addition to add to your aroid  collection.

PLANT and SHIPPING:

Each order will include 1- Alocasia Baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ plant, root packed in soil and wrapped to retain moisture during shipping. This plant is not shipped in a pot. Price also includes Expedited Shipping or Priority Shipping. You choose shipping method in Variations. There is also an option for shipping method plus heat packs. We are not responsible for damage during shipping if you do not choose appropriate shipping method  and heat packs for weather conditions in your area.

These plants are starter plants so as they mature they will produce new leaves. The plants in photos above are Alocasia Baginda ‘Dragon Scale’ plants similar to what you will receive. The plant you receive may vary in size. I will hand pick the best plant available when packing your order. I will also email you a photo of your hand picked Alocasia along with an expected delivery day when your order is being prepared.

POTTING:

Once you receive your Alocasia you will want to plant in a 4 inch pot that allows proper drainage. The plant should stay in a 4 inch pot for at least one year. When you decide to repot you will want to wait until Spring or when the plant is not dormant.

SOIL:

This jewel alocasia requires a chunky, fast draining soil. A standard aroid mix with a slow- release fertilizer works well. You can also use compost, peat moss,  or worm casings in place of fertilizer. You will only feed this plant during growing season doing so every two to three weeks. Be sure to add water to dilute fertilizer to make appropriate mixture for plant size.

WATERING:

This alocasia will need to be watered when soil is moist not completely dry. Watering should be monitored closely as over or under watering could kill this alocasia. During Fall and Winter months this plant will go dormant and will require less water during this time. Plants that are kept outdoors may require more watering than those kept indoors. Be sure not to get leaves too wet during watering.

TEMPERATURE:

This alocasia requires a warm, humid climate whether being kept indoors or outside. If you plan to keep your alocasia indoors you will want to place near a window that gets bright indirect sunlight. You may also use artificial lights if necessary. Because alocasias require at least 80 percent humidity you may want to place a humidifier in the room with the plant or place pot on a tray with pebbles or stones and water that remains below the surface of pebble or stone. When the water evaporates it will help to provide extra humidity for the plant. Never leave the pot sitting in standing water.

When keeping alocasias outdoors you will want to choose a spot that provides partial sun to shade. Direct sunlight may burn leaves on this alocasia.  Alocasias do well in temperatures ranging from 55-85 degrees Fahrenheit when temperatures are out of this range you will want to move plants indoors.

TOXICITY:

PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP THIS ALOCASIA OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS AS THIS PLANT IS TOXIC IF INGESTED. BECAUSE IT MAY ALSO IRRITATE EYES, BE SURE TO WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER TOUCHING LEAVES ON THIS PLANT.

CLEANING AND PESTS:

You may clean the leaves on this alocasia by lightly misting with soap and water then gently wiping dry. If you notice signs of pests you can spray leaves with with a mixture of neem oil or mineral oil and water.
