Monstera Adansonii | Swiss cheese plant
The Swiss cheese plant gets its name from its large, heart-shaped leaves which, develop holes as the plant ages, making its leaves resemble Swiss cheese. Native to Central and South America, the Swiss cheese plant is a tropical perennial typically grown as a houseplant. It’s notoriously easy to care for and loves to climb—providing it with a stake, moss stick, or trellis that it can cling to can lead to some beautiful displays!
It’s also a popular houseplant because it’s generally unfussy and has few pests or diseases. Its gorgeous leaves, which develop holes that give it its whimsical name, may grow up to three feet wide! It’s a great plant for newbies and experienced plant people alike.

- What to expect: You’ll get a healthy plant in a 4″ nursery pot. Please note: The pictures may show an enlarged plant (more mature plant) for the sake of showing off the plant at its peak!
Packaging & Shipping: Every plant is fragile and the shipping process is not always kind (or easy). That’s why every plant is packaged snugly with care in a pot with plastic wrapping tightly sitting over the dirt in the pot to prevent it from falling out as well as around the pot to hold it in place inside the shipping box.
Returns & Refunds: Due to the nature of the product, we cannot accept returns or refunds. If there are issues with your order, please reach out to us so that we can do our best to find an appropriate resolution.
Soil: A standard well-drained potting soil mix. We use a mixture of 50% perlite and 50% succulent soil mix to ensure the roots remain aerated and healthy.
Light: Full sun, partial shade
Water: Swiss cheese plants like to be consistently moist, but not soaked. While it may seem complicated to strike that balance, you can easily test if your plant is in need of water using an easy trick. Before watering your Swiss cheese plant, stick your finger into the soil about an inch deep—if the soil feels nearly dry-to-the-touch, it’s time to water the plant.
Temperature: These deep-jungle plants thrive on very high humidity, lots of moisture, and high temperatures. Choose a spot in a well-lit, warm, and humid bathroom or kitchen, and mist the plant frequently. Additionally, you can also place a humidifier nearby to keep the air moist. Swiss cheese plants should be kept above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, if possible, but can survive brief cold spells with some die-back.
