Pinguicula genus has roughly 80 known species, 13 are native to Europe, 9 to North America, and some to northern Asia. The largest number of species is in South and Central America. Tropical Pinguicula either form somewhat compact winter rosettes composed of fleshy leaves or retain carnivorous leaves year-round.

Pinguicula is a tropical plant and it requires bright indirect sunlight, some morning sun is ok as it will give it its beautiful blush pink on the leaves, and can also easily be grown indoors with artificial lighting. Depending on your location you may be able to grow them outdoors all year round or part of the year. This plant loves moisture so it must be kept in humid conditions specially in the summer  while in its carnivorous state. Keep media moist by using the “tray method” with ¾”-1” of water. Morning or late afternoon direct sun is ok,  Avoid mid day sun especially on the hottest days of summer. During the winter, they go dormant into a succulent state, they should be kept cooler and drier but not completely dry, add water to tray as it dries out. Tolerant to temperatures from low 40°s to low 100°s as long as is kept protected. Here in So. Cal I grow them outdoors all year round, with temperatures from 103-43, occasionally gets below 40 but not for long . All pinguicula require mineral-free water (distilled, rain or reverse osmosis)

They are fun to grow and with proper care grow very fast, they can also be grown mounted on volcanic (feather rock), pumice, and limestone as shown here. And make great decoration and conversational pieces that is sure to catch eye or anyone.

Not all species are the same size. Some are hybridized to be small and others bigger. I try to show that with pictures so you know what you are purchasing. The blush of the leaves depends on the amount of sun or artificial light exposure (allowable sun exposure explained above). All plants are well stablished, and of proper fair size (see picture comparing my plants to the “Industry Standard”) I emphasize this because I want you to be sure you are getting a good size plant and not what is commercially sold. Plants will ship bareroot in a small container with sphagnum moss and it will need to be potted immediately up on arrival. They are shipped in this manner because they are delicate and there is less chances of it getting tossed around.  If you do not have your media ready up on arrival, do not leave the container open for a prolonged period of time without moisture or the plant will die. You may spray plant with the proper water (explained above) to help it hydrate. I offer pinguicula potting mixed media. It is available for sale  in my store for your convenience, or you can get your own locally. You can contact me for mixing ratios. or visit my TreeLink directly. Link is found at my store front page between the FB and IG link (Link logo not visible but is there) WILL SHIP NO MORE THAN 3 PLANTS IN ONE BOX- IF YOU PURCHASE MORE THAN 3 PLANTYS ,YOU WILL NEED TO PLACE 2 SEPARATE ORDERS.

  2. Received after 3 days I ordered. They arrived in a box. All wrapped loosely by used newspapers. You can see the roots with some soil still attached. I planted them in pots the next day. I put them in my sun room. Hope they will grow healthy and see the flowers soon.
