Alocasia “Black Velvet”

Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ (Alocasia Reginula) is a popular houseplant native to Southeast Asia. It has beautiful dark, rough leaves with prominent white veins. Black velvet thrives in moist soil and bright, indirect light.

Exposing them to full sun will burn their foliage. Just like any other alocasia family, they are not drought-tolerant. Allow top soil to dry before watering again.

Fertilization during their growing season will help produce more healthy, bigger leaves. Alocasia black velvet is susceptible to root rot so be careful with your watering. This plant does not tolerate temperatures below 50 degrees F. so mimick the environment of this plant from where they’re native for them to thrive.

Alocasia Black Velvet needs coarse, well-draining soil and careful watering to prevent soggy conditions. It prefers humidity of 60-75%, temperatures of 59-80ºF (15-27ºC), and moderate indirect light. Fertilize lightly every 4 weeks during the growing season and only repot infrequently.
