This listing is for 1) Chokecherry 2 1/2″ pot Chokecherry – Prunus Virginiana – Canada Red – Canada Red Chokecherry is a small to medium-sized tree with deep purple leaves that will bring a splash of color to your landscape. … They’ll soon turn a rich burgundy-purple. In spring, this fast-growing tree is smothered in delightfully fragrant white flowers in clusters shaped like chili peppers. Remarkable for their value to wildlife, shrubs and trees in the genus Prunus rank third in the number of Lepidoptera that are supported on the foliage. This includes five species of butterflies such as tiger swallowtail and red-spotted purple, and 10 species of giant silk moths such as cecropia moth, Polyphemus moth, imperial moth and io moth. The aromatic flower clusters are very popular with early pollinators. Autumn foliage turns golden yellow to orange. The little trees appear healthy with green buds emerging. I did find it strange that they were not labeled with what they were, nor was there any paperwork with them, nor directions. I would strongly recommend that anyone buying these little plants wash all the soil off and bareroot them. They have a nice healthy root system, but the roots had grown down to the bottom of the pot, and then back to the top again, and with some circling. By barerooting them, and placing the plant on a little mound of soil and spreading the roots evenly around and down that mound, then partially filling in the planting hole, watering, adding soil to proper level to the base of the stem where the root flare starts, mulching with fine would chips (keeping the chips a few inches away from the stem) and watering again, they should have a good start.
