A yuzuquat is a trigeneric hybrid between a Yuzu lemon (Citrus ichangensis x C. reticulata) and ‘Nagami’ kumquat (C. japonica ‘Nagami’).[1] It was developed by John Brown in Texas.[2] The fruit often is used as a lemon substitute.

Yuzuquat Is a cross between the Nameiwa (Nagami X Meiwa kumquat) X Yuzu. The original tree has survived several very severe freezes, which had sub-freezing temperature in the 100+ hour range, with minimum temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit… Fruit is Large Kumquat size…Flavor of the fruit tends to be sour, but without bitterness or sweetness. The peel is edible like any kumquat and with a good taste. Fruit sets in April is ripe by late August/September and stores well on the tree for several months.
