What is the Philodendron Majesty, and why is it such a particular plant?

The Philodendron Dark Majesty is sometimes referred to as self-heading philodendron. This is because it has some of the most exemplary traits combined from the Philodendron Verrucosum L.Mathieu ex Schott and Philodendron Sodiroi. The plant is perennial with a vine growth and an aroid belonging to the Araceae family.

Selecting this hybrid plant will be one of the best choices you have made. The Majesty plant proliferates and looks charming at the same time to cultivate in pots or hang from a basket. You can even grow it as an outdoor plant.

When you look at the Philodendron Red Majesty care, the upkeep is similar, but the difference is in the foliage.

The Red Majesty begins growing with a deeper orange shade changing to a blood-red then to a deep dark green top with a maroon metallic underside. 

Humidity and Temperature 

To keep your plant living like a majesty, it does not tolerate cold temperatures for a long time. Therefore, we recommend keeping its temperature between 55 degrees and to 90-degrees F. The evening temperature needs to be 65-70 F and day temperatures 75-85 F. 

As with any other tropical plant; it prospers in high humidity with levels of 40% to 80%. You can mist your plan occasionally to increase the moisture. Alternatively, it also helps to invest in a humidifier.

What Type of Pot Should You Buy?

Philodendron Majesty Soil Requirement

When it comes to caring for your grandeur plant, it needs soil rich in organic matter with excellent drainage. Why? According to the University of Missouri Extension Horticulturists, the ideal ground is half solid and half pore space by volume.

Furthermore, the air and water need to be equal parts as it helps to cultivate the soil.

Therefore, the ground needs outstanding drainage, and best to replace the soil every couple of years. The greenery does not like salt as it causes the leaves to be brown or turn yellow. Flush out the salts by watering them thoroughly until the water comes out of the drainage holes.

• For the best Philodendron Majesty soil, pick one that is chunky with a suitable dosage of peat. Plantly recommends the following:
• Mix half potting soil with half coco chips or orchid bark.
• Alternatively, you can mix ¾ potting soil with ¼ perlite or pumice.

Water Requirements

Just as you need nourishment, your Philodendron Dark Majesty needs a balanced liquid fertilizer. You can do this monthly in spring and summer. During fall and winter, you can provide it with nourishment every 6 to 8 weeks.

Your grandeur plant needs calcium and magnesium to thrive, and if the leaves turn pale, you need to add it to its diet but not too much.

Repotting

As mentioned, your plant will need repotting when it outgrows the pot. Choose a vessel that is about two inches larger. Compared to other plants you transplant in spring to summer, you do in late winter or spring. Make sure it has enough drainage with clean pebbles and stones.

You can use the recommended soil mix mentioned earlier. Once you transplant it, you need to provide it with enough water during the first few months but not soggy. You can also add a pole for your plant to climb as the aerial roots hang onto any type of support.

Furthermore, never cut these roots entirely, but you can cut them back if too long or start to die.

On the other hand, you can trim your majesty plant if it starts to take up space in your room. The best time to do this is in spring or fall. We recommend:

• Cut off the longest and oldest stems.
• You can also cut gangly stems with yellowing or dead leaves.
• Remove any stems with dying leaves.
• Always use a sterilized and sharp pruning shear and cut the section where the stem meets the primary area of your plant.

How to Propagate Philodendron Majesty

• In the summer, cut off a couple of cuttings under the node and get rid of the leaves in the lower part.
• Place the cuttings in your blend of potting mix and place each one in its own pot.
• After planting, you need to water it well and let it drain.
• Seal up the container with a plastic bag and place it at average room temperature in a bright spot.
• Expose the majesty cuttings to air every three days to help prevent mold buildup.
• After about four weeks, it should start to root, and you need to remove the dome after this happens.
• Now you can transfer the cuttings to another pot and fertilize it every four weeks.

Philodendron Majesty Diseases & Pests

As with most houseplants, the Philodendron Majesty also has its fair share of pests and diseases. Here are some of the common problems:

Spider mites

Can infect your plant and are found on the axils around the leaf borders. With an extensive invasion, you will notice the leaves showing tiny spots or changing color and even curling. You can use insecticidal soap or Neem oil to treat it.

Thrips

Are another unpleasant pest you find on the under or upper side, killing the plant. You notice this when your plant shows growth failure and starts to shed its leaves. But, again, there are insects like a ladybug that help get rid of them. Or you can use Neem oil.

Mealybugs

You find it in warmer weather and look like cotton on the leaves or stems. It can cause the leaves to turn yellow or curl. You can clean the plant with some cotton dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Aphids

Grow fast, and you need to get them under control before they reproduce. To get rid of them, use a spray with cold water to dislodge them. Alternatively, you can dust your plant with flour or use horticultural oil.
